First and Second Grade Adventures!
This year we will have both first and second graders. While this is not always the news you want to hear, I can guarantee that this is going to be a fantastic year for your child. In our class we will focus on differentiating learning to meet students' needs in each content area. 6-8 year olds present such a wide range of learning, that it doesn't really matter that we have two grade levels. During a year when I only have one grade, I still differentiate learning every day to meet the needs of my learners. I will continue to do that this year.
This year we will be mainly using UFLI, Benchmark Advance, high quality literature, and teacher created resources to help students grow as readers. We will be using Eureka Squared for Math. All students will continue to grow as writers. We will be working on writing narratives, informational writing, and opinion pieces. We will use Studies Weekly, Amplify Science, plus some teacher created resources for Social Studies and Science. I will be using both whole group lessons, small groups based on skill need, and grade level groups to cover all grade levels standards.
